“Intensive Professional Program in Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy Development for Myanmar” Back

The program is supported under Round 15 of the Australia Awards Fellowships (AAF) scheme and conducted from 6th to 18th July 2015. Objective: The intensive professional course is aimed at developing leaders in reproductive health policy, public health and health service delivery by enhancing the capacity of fellows in: ? Maternal and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programs including adolescent health ? Health Policy development and implementation ? Fertility control and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) prevention ? Gender and cultural issues in SRH service delivery. Participants included 9 teaching staff (Public Health) from Universities under the Department of Health Profession Resource Development and Management, 11 Public Health Professionals under the Department of Public Health and 5 Ob & Gyns from Myanmar Medical Association (ObGy Society), Myanmar. Participants have learnt the followings during the program; ? Challenges of STI in public health, Health service Delivery, Human Resource and training ? Introduction to STI & HIV with a focus on guidelines and evidence- based medicine in SRH ? Four Health Policy Workshops: Theories of policy making, STI surveillance and Policy, Needs Assessment in Reproductive Health and Knowledge network in Sexual health and HIV ? Three Reproductive Health Workshops: Global issues in contraception and Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC), Cervical Cancer Screening and Skill transfer- training of nurses for IUD insertion ? Four SCORPIO (Structured, Contextual, Objective, Referenced, Problem Oriented, Integrated and Organized) stations o Prevention of unsafe abortion and management of complications o Reaching rural and remote communities o Post-partum contraception o LARC ? Adolescent and young people's health, sexual violence and its impact of SRH and HIV ? Sex and Gender, Role of counselors, Health Literacy and Quality use of Medicines ? Leadership and Change Management ? In addition to lectures at the University of Sydney, participants have visited o New South Wales Ministry of Health and o Family Planning New South Wales to observe the functions of respective Departments.
